Proclaimed by decree the "National Flower of Cambodia", Romduol is the flower of a shrub - Mitrella Mesnyi, also known as Sphaerocoryne.
Romduol is renowned for its attractive fragrance. The flower is also used to make a lip balm that is very popular with Cambodian women. An essential oil extracted from the flower is also used in traditional medicine.
Cambodian literature, poetry and song associate romduol with Khmer women.
Kosal offers a surreal interpretation of this association of the flower with the perfume of women: "When Romduol blooms in the evening, it's as if we were surrounded by beautiful young women".
