DIN

Din is a Cambodian artist born in 1982.

Drawing since childhood, he turned to architecture, graduating in 2005. But it was to painting that he turned after being overwhelmed by a performance of traditional dances by the Apsaras, celestial nymphs whose legends are closely linked to the history of the Khmer Empire.

From then on, Din began to depict them in his highly recognizable style, emphasizing the effects of movement and the delicacy of the hands, while leaving the features of the faces to the viewer’s imagination.

While Apsaras are his main theme, he also enjoys great success with his depictions of Jayavarman VII, the last great king of the Khmer empire, protector and unifier of the country. He was a builder of temples and still retains an important aura among the population today.
