SU MEI-YU

Born in Taiwan, SU Mei-Yu is a painter and exhibition curator who has lived and worked in France since 1981.

Trained at the Beaux-Arts in Taiwan and then at the Beaux-Arts in Paris in the Drawing and Painting sections, Mei-Yu SU first exhibited her works in France and Taiwan, then began working as an exhibition curator.

A specialist in Matisse but also in traditional Chinese culture, she obtained a doctorate in art history at the Sorbonne in 2007, and became a professor at the National Taiwan University of the Arts. She has organized notable exhibitions, including “The Golden Age of Impressionism” and “Matisse and China”, which earned her the title of Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters in 1998.

Her commitment to research temporarily slowed down her career as an artist, although she had always dreamed of being a painter. Also, the pandemic experienced in 2020 gave her the opportunity to return to the practice of painting and she began to develop a concept of modular paintings, inviting the public to interact with her works.

His creations, inspired by Chinese philosophy, highlight the relationship between man, nature and life, the harmony between heaven, earth and human society.
